Party City Monster High Honey Swamp Costume Review

First, let me say this costume is very comfortable and great quality! The wig was suprisingly clawsome and is exactly like our favorite swamp-diva, Honey Swamp! The feathers do tickle a bit but thankfully Party City has a brilliant design team that thought of tights to cap off this killer design! It is very true to size so for our curvy ghouls make sure you try it on first, which Party city is happy to let you do in the 1000’s of stores nationwide.

If the name Party City sounds familiar, chances are you’ve come across it before. That’s because Party City is the country’s largest specialty party goods chain, with more than 600 company-owned and franchise stores located throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The company’s online party goods store is an extension of all the great offerings found in the brick-and-mortar stores.

Cleo De Nile
Although its competitors may specialize in birthdays or themed parties, Party City is the place to shop when it comes to everything Halloween. The site has tons of costumes and accessories and all the supplies you’ll need to throw a spooky, spectacular Halloween party. A few of our favorite items include tombstones, skeletons and life-size cutouts.

Once October 31st passes, Party City is still a great store to shop for all your other party needs. They offer basic party supplies for virtually every other holiday and celebratory occasion throughout the year. The site has an impressive collection of invitations and wedding supplies; brides-to-be will find all the accessories they need for the ceremony, reception and pre-wedding festivities.

While the site is simple to navigate and products can be found relatively easy, it lacks the extra features that many of their competitors offer, such as party-planning tips. However, one thing we liked was on the bottom of each product page is a section titled “More Ideas…” where a few other related products that you might be interested in are listed.

Here are my top 3 costume tips:

1. Choose a costume that is comfortable and simple! Toddlers can’t be bothered with carrying props, so stick to costumes that have everything included or aren’t too complicated.

2. Dress in layers! Your child might decide when you arrive at a party that he has no desire to wear his costume any more. Don’t be disappointed… be smart! Dress him in layers and make the bottom layer just as cute as the top. I love to buy skeleton pjs or cute Halloween shirts to put on under costumes so that when my kids choose to strip down (because they always do), they still look festive and cute.

3. Have low expectations and practice! Halloween is a crazy holiday for everyone and is different than the usual routine… so practice, practice, practice! Practice trick or treating around your house and practice having your child wear her costume a lot so that she becomes comfortable with it. Be flexible if your child isn’t into wearing a costume. You will have plenty of years where they will LOVE dressing up… so don’t worry too much if your little ones would rather forget about their costume and just have a lollipop. 🙂

What else would you add?

Introduction to Monster High for new Mummies and Daddies!

Be unique, Be Yourself, Be A Monster ?

So over the last five years I have heard more & more people of all ages asking “What is Monster High?” and “Why is Monster High so popular?” Well here is hopefully a very good answer to the parents who just don’t get it yet.

A leading Toy Expert stated recently “There’s a particularly important message for kids as our too-often-polarized culture defines people as groups—just as the high school culture can for kids still forming their identities.

Monster High is all about being an individual, celebrating what’s unique and different about each human being, seeing beyond the surface and somehow making it all work. It’s a very supportive message for kids delivered with appropriate humor and, of course, drop dead style.

I’ve always believed that we become what we play, that the identities we try on in the world of the imagination can become elements of ourselves as adults. Sure, the Monster High toys are beautiful and fun, but most importantly they encourage kids to explore their worlds and express themselves, and that’s the best play of all.” he stated. Truly an opinion many parents share across the world as well as the envy many of us share that our dolls growing up were not as “cool” as the Guys & Ghouls of Monster high.

So What is Monster High ?

Monster High Dolls were released before Mid-Summer 2010. This year they are even bigger and have so many more dolls added to the range. Besides the original dolls we have now seen the Gloom Beach and Dead Tired series. Along with that has been the addition of further dolls such as Ghoulia Yelps, Jackson Jekyll, Holt Hyde, Clawd Wolf and Abbey Bominiable, Spectra Vondergeist. Another doll is due for release
this year known as called Toralei Stripe. These dolls are awesome and it’s great to see them modeled on how real high schools operate as well as including boy dolls in the series. Below is an article I wrote when Monster High Dolls first came out. I have added the latest dolls into the list of characters.

There’s some really thrilling news if you’re a doll lover. Monster High Dolls are the newest line from Mattel and are part of their new entertainment franchise.. Monster High Dolls are really cool teenage children that all come from famous monsters. They all attend Monster High where they experience regular teenage moments such as trying to fit in and make friends. The Monster High Dolls are refreshingly individual which will appeal to many doll fans.

Monster High Dolls are just a bit weird but with lots of style and humor. They all look so fashionable and stylish. Each doll comes with a pet, an accessory, a brush, a stand and a diary with a secret code that can unlock things on the website. The code gives you inside information on new characters, games and activities. The characters all have their own style and personality that is determined by their freaky flaw, for instance Draculaura can’t see her own reflection in a mirror.

So let’s introduce the guys & ghouls:

Frankie Stein

Frankie Stein is the daughter of Frankenstein and his bride. She’s 15 years old and comes with her pet Watzit which is made up of all different animal parts.

Draculaura

Draculaura is the daughter of Count Dracula. She’s centuries old but wow! she looks amazing. She comes with her pet bat Count Fabulous.

Clawdeen Wolf

Clawdeen Wolf is the daughter of the Werewolf. She’s 15 years old and comes with her little kitten, Crescent.

Lagoona Blue

The daughter of a Seamonster. She’s 15 years old and comes with her pet pirahna, Neptuna.

Cleo De Nile
The daughter of The Mummy. She’s the egyptian princess who’s over 5 thousand years old and like Draculaura she’s very well preserved. She comes with her pet cobra, Hissette.

Deuce Gorgon

The son of Medusa. He’s 16 years old and comes with his pet rat, Perseus.

Ghoulia Yelps

Ghoulia Yelps is the daughter of Zombies from the Zombie movie Night of The Living Dead. She is the smartest girl at Monster High. She has a baby blue colored owl named Sir Hoots-a-Lot.

Holt Hyde

Holt Hyde is the son of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He is also the school DJ. Holt Hyde has blue skin and fiery red hair. He comes dressed in a red jacket with striped purple pants to compliment his fiery red hair. Holt has a pet chameleon named Crossfade.

Jackson Jekyll

Jackson Jekyll is the son of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He is the alter ego of Holt Hyde. He’s the normal side and is the only human or “normie”  at Monster High.

Clawd Wolf

Clawd Wolf in the 17 year old son of the Werewolf and Clawdeen Wolf’s brother. He is one of the older Monster High Dolls and drives a car. Clawd Wolf is the big monster on the Monster High campus being the captain of the football team. He has a pet gargoyle bulldog named Rockseena.

Spectra Vondergeist

Spectra Vondergeist is the daughter of ghosts. She can float through the walls and possesses an “uncanny” ability to overhear school gossip.Spectra’s pet is a purple ghost ferret is named Rhuen.

Cleo De Nile and Deuce Gorgon are Monster High’s popular cool couple. Cleo is the mean girl of the school (every school has one) and Deuce is her super cool boyfriend. Frankie Stein, Draculaura and Clawdeen Wolf are BFF’s. Lagoona Blue fits in well with everyone

So far Mattel hasn’t released a full range of dolls clothes but that is all to come. In the meantime Bratz clothes will fit the Monster High gang even though they are a bit bigger than Bratz. The dolls are full articulated with the arms pulling apart at the elbow and wrist for easier redressing. For this reason and the fact that the earrings come off makes these dolls unsuitable for smaller kids. There’s a plush version available for the younger kids though. Yes, Mattel has thought of everything.

Mattel has big plans for the Monster High Franchise. The Monster High website has animated webisodes on it. Mattel has also released a further collection of dolls called “Dawn Of The Dance” where the dolls will be wearing 80′s style clothes to the school dance. There are also other versions out now too such as the “Dead Tired” series. A full live action feature film is coming out with Universal pictures which will propel Monster High even further.

Of course a Universal Picture can’t be released without a full range of clothes, handbags, shoes, fashion accessories, hair accessories, jewelry, socks, slippers, costumes, you name it Monster High will have it. There’s are 2 series of Monster High books written by Lisi Harrison and Giity Danshvari .

Vampires and Werewolves have taken over the world due to the Twilight series which is aimed towards the older teen, Monster High will fill in the gaps and entertain the younger teens that are just a bit to young for Twilight. Monster High will definitely appeal to them. Monster High Dolls are already  a monstrous hit.

Will Monster High Dolls appeal to you?

Let’s see, there’s nothing on the market like them. They’re unique and different and will appeal to not only kids but adults who love collecting dolls. Horror fans are going to love these dolls. Besides being a little bit freaky they are actually drop dead gorgeous so if you’re into fashion you’re going to love them. Everyone will love Monster High Dolls

Mattel really have outdone themselves with a line of dolls that truly are a breath of fresh air.

Creature Feature:Printable Doll Clothes and Giveaway

It’s a new year and time for a new feature on our blog. Our new Creature Feature will showcase some very talented Monster High artists from all over the world. Our first feature will be the clawsome Elizabeth from Printable Doll Clothes!

When I saw her site printabledollclothes.com I was blown away at her off the fang designs for our Ghouls at Monster High. I am sure you will agree that they are voltageous and show killer style.
Mega Pack Picture

Let’s meet Elizabeth and learn all about our new freaky fab friend:

I’ve had a life long love of dolls, and I’ve been collecting them since I was about six. At first, I mostly collected Barbie. Recently though I’ve started collecting many other doll lines, some of which had few additional outfit options available. I wanted an inexpensive way, that was less time consuming than sewing, to make doll clothes for them.
Being able to print an outfit with regular printer paper that would fasten with tape seemed like a good way to achieve this goal. I started measuring various dolls and using scrap paper to see if paper dresses could work. After much trial and error I eventually came up with the template pieces I now make my outfits from. It was very exciting when my first printed outfit was finished and looked great!
Originally I designed my printable doll clothes to fit Barbie and Monster High dolls but after I had finalized the pieces I found that they also worked on a LOT more dolls than just those two. I’ve made outfits for Chelsea, Barbie’s little sister, and I’ve made an outfit for an 18” American Girl doll. Obviously, every doll can’t wear all of the combinations, but most dolls smaller than an American Girl doll can find something to wear using my pieces.
I love historical fashion so the designing process has been very fun. I like to design many different styles of dresses, from Jane Austen Regency to Palace of Versailles ball gowns to Steampunk to Fantasy Fairies to classic fifties dresses, as well as modern designs and much more. With multiple top, skirt, and sleeve combinations for each outfit there are a lot of possibilities. And each of my outfit sets comes with a black and white template that can be colored with crayons etc after printing for a really customized (and ink friendly) look.
I began designing my outfits in July of 2013. After months of development and photography I launched my Etsy store in November of 2013 so that other people can enjoy my outfits too. I’ve had a lot of fun designing my collection and I am excited to see what the future holds for Printable Doll Clothes.

Here is a couple freaky fab tutorials so you can see how simple it is to dress your ghouls in a whole new style! I am sure Venus would love this idea since you would be able to recycle them, and attention Mummies who need a lil Maul time- Elizabeth has black/white designs so you can keep the lil monsters busy coloring! What a freaky fab idea!

Elizabeth or as I keep calling her Elissabat has also offered all of you Mansters and Ghouls A Coupon Code “MonsterHighParents” good for 20% off an order of $7.50 or more with no expiration date.
